Every once in a while, you can get a little glimpse of what can be come of good friendships. A friend of Shannon who I work with wanted to give a special gift to Shannon and Bryan, a secret photo shoot on the day of their wedding. While the overall wedding plans were being kept low key, Shannon's friend knew Shannon had always dreamed of getting married on a beach. In the initial planning of the secret shoot, we did not know how it would all play out... its not usually a good idea to suprise a bride on her wedding, with unplanned events and as it worked out the secret had to be shared just before the wedding day. With a now planned short excursion to the beach Just before the wedding, I was able to capture some magic.
New Smyrna Beach
New Smyrna Beach Wedding
The weather was just about perfect on the first weekend of October in New Smyrna Beach, FL for Ashley and Alex's wedding on the beach. The ceremony setup on the sand in front of the private beach house at the South end of New Smyrna Beach. A reception and celebration of the newlyweds would stretch late into the night on the deck overlooking the ocean, lit by tiki torches and and with the lights of shrimp boats out in the ocean
This past monday, I met up with the Guillow family at their condo on the beach in New Smyrna Beach where they were staying for vacation. I took several full group portraits then started shooting smaller family groupings. We started at the pool deck area of the condo to get a controlled family portrait with my 2 light flash setup then went down onto the sand to get a variety of images with different looks and backgrounds. Eventually we finished up with reflection portraits on the wet sand just on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean waves. By the end of the shoot, when my contact had asked me where I was from and I gave the story, suddenly we realized an interesting connection. My client's mother, who was part of the family portrait session was also a Catawba College Alum. So much for me saying I went to a small college that you probably haven't even heard of. Below are a few pre-views of the portrait session, some of my favorite images from the shoot.
I met up with the Sczesny family at the New Smyrna Beach Sugarmill Ruins park for a family portrait session to make some updated family portraits with a different feel then the family portraits on the beach I shot for them last year. I have been wanting to take a family to the Sugarmill Ruins for some time, and this time it worked out great. The remains of the old Spanish style sugar mill date back to before the Seminole Indian wars, where much of the mill was destroyed and abandoned, but it has since been turned into a county park, and is open to the public.
I met the Burch family at the family's beachside condo where they were vacationing on the sands of New Smyrna Beach, FL. I first met the Burchs a couple years ago when I first photographed them, but a few years had passed, and a few new little ones had been added to the family. The family is always a fun group, and was evidenced with the jumping group photos.
The Grimaldo family wanted to create some great portraits of all the grand kids together for their grandmother's birthday. I met them at Smyrna Dunes Park in New Smyrna Beach and we walked through the boardwalk and sand dunes to the area commonly known as the dog beach, as the late afternoon sun gave everything a warm feel.
Family Portrait photography at Old Fort Park in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I met up with the Hoffman family in the late afternoon to make some great family portraits using the run-ins commonly called 'The Old Fort' as the background. While the real history and origin of th sold stone foundations has been lost to history, it still makes for a neat background location for family portrait photography on location in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
I first met the Stewart family when they asked me to shoot some beach portraits for their daughter's sweet 16 birthday party (Check out those photos by clicking here). So this year when the grandparents were making the trip to visit all the way from England, they asked me to meet them again to shoot some great family portraits as a gift for the grandparents.
As it turns out with a bit of a scheduling shuffle we were able to make the portraits happen right on the beach on a day when the sunset just lit the sky up the vibrant pinks blue colors.
Here are some of my favorite images from their photo shoot.
Sometimes I fall a bit behind on getting blog posts put together and posted, but I hope to be caught up soon. Which means that there are a lot more great photos to come soon. Here are some of my favorite shots from a family portrait session that I shot some time ago. I met the Woolslayer family at North Beach Community Park in New Smyrna Beach, FL to make some great family portraits on the beach. The weather had been a bit questionable that day with a bit of rain and overcast skies all day, but the sky cleared up just as we were getting started. The family was great, and we were able to get their photos in, just before we were swarmed by mosquitos at the end of our shoot… Welcome to FL.
This past Tuesday I had a great opportunity to photograph the Putney family who were visiting New Smyrna Beach, FL on vacation from New York. The weather was perfect for a beach portrait with crisp blue skies, and low tide. Here are some of my favorite images from the photo session which was at one of my favorite beach locations North Beach Community Park.
